A Legacy Built on Education
Born in 1917, Mr. Shamsul Huq Bhuiyan grew up in extreme poverty, orphaned as a child, in a rural community where few students studied beyond the fifth grade. Despite these hardships, he embraced education as the greatest equalizing force in life — a path that broke a generational cycle of poverty and built a lasting foundation for his family’s future.
His belief in education as the key to opportunity and social equality shaped not only his own life, but the lives of his children. Today, his family includes successful professionals across the United States, with four PhD degrees among them — a living testament to the power of investing in education.
The Shamsul Huq Bhuiyan Scholarship was created to extend that same opportunity to a new generation of deserving students.
About the Scholarship
- Award: One scholarship granted each academic year.
- Eligibility: Financially disadvantaged students who show strong academic promise and high motivation.
- Selection: Candidates are shortlisted by MNI; the Bhuiyan Family selects the final recipient.
- Coverage: All educational expenses for the full three-year program.
- Post-Graduation Support: A one-time stipend to support the recipient during her six month internship after graduation.
